Delegation of scientists from Wuhan University visits HLRS in Stuttgart

A delegation of guest scientists of the Wuhan University, China, visited the High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) of the University of Stuttgart, one of the most powerful supercomputer centers in Europe. The scientists stay at the University of Stuttgart for a month-long research stay.

In addition, the guest scientists visited the Campus Stadtmitte. The research stay is part of the Thematic Network on Modern Geodetic Space Techniques for Global Change Monitoring.

DAAD Thematic Network Summer School on Geodetic Techniques for Global Change Monitoring in Yi Chang in July 2017

The Wuhan University and the University of Stuttgart organized a Summer School for MSc and PhD students from July 24th until July 28th in Yi Chang, China. In this Summer School, Professors and researchers as well as PhD and MSc students came together to discuss current topics in global change monitoring using geodetic techniques like GNSS, satellite altimetry, InSAR, satellite gravimetry, deformation analysis and hydrological geodesy. The program of the one-week event included lectures by experts of the respective fields, laboratories to support the content of the lectures, an excursion to the Three-Gorges-Dam and a social program. More than 60 professors, lecturers, PhD and MSc students joined the event. The participants are from the partner institutions of the DAAD Thematic Network on Geodetic Techniques for Global Change Monitoring, which is funded by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and consists of the following institutions:

Two profossors, three scientists and four students from the University of Stuttgart were engaged in the Summer School. Prof. Nico Sneeuw, head of the Institute of Geodesy, gave a lecture about time series analysis, Prof. Volker Schwieger, Director of the Institute of Engineering Geodesy about deformation analysis using Kalman Filters, Dr. Mohammad Tourian about the inland water application of satellite altimetry.
The Summer School provides a platform for intensive knowledge transfer and academic exchange. You can find more information soon on the website of the DAAD Thematic Network as well as on the website of the Wuhan University.

Resaerch and study stays at partner institutions in China

Three master students of the University of Stuttgart stayed at our partner institutions Wuhan University and Tongji University for the winter semester 16/17. Giving students the opportunity to stay at our partner institutions improves the quality of out training and benefits the internationalisation of the University of Stuttgart. To support the exchange, we introduced an scholarship programm to support up 10 outgoing students every year.

Thematic Network Workshop from 20th - 22nd July 2016 at University of Stuttgart

Kick-off Symposium Dragon-4 from 4th- 8th July in Wuhan

Kick-off Symposium for research project Dragon-4

Final results of the ESA-MoST project Dragon-3 „Current and Future Geodetic Satellite Missions for Global Change Monitoring” (2013-2016) were presented at the symposium in Wuhan, China. The follow-on project Dragon-4 "Monitoring Lake Level Variations over the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau by Consistent Multi-Satellite Altimetry“ was introduced. It is supported by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and runs until 2020.


Delegation Visit to China from 14th - 22nd May 2016

Cooperative research and international exchange are at the center of one-week delegation mission to China.
Seven Scientists of the European core institutions - University of Luxembourg, Munich University and Stuttgart University - participating in the DAAD network came together for a joint strategy meeting and research stay from May, 12th to 22nd 2016 in China.

Chinese Academy of Surveying and Mapping, Beijing, China

In addition, strategy meetings, lectures and interesting presentations on topics as geography, hydrology, climate change, climate modeling and other geodynamics were held in order to deepen academic exchange. All professors agree on the success of this delegation: on the one hand, the networks' structure could further consolidate, on the other hand, the current state of research, future research projects as well as network activities have been concretized.

Successful Fist Network Meeting in Stuttgart

Erstes erfolgreiches Treffen des DAAD Thematischen Netzwerks “Modern Geodetic Space Techniques for Global Change Monitoring” an der Universität Stuttgart.
Am 19. November 2015 fand das erste Treffen des Thematischen Netzwerks mit unseren Partnern aus China, Luxemburg und München statt. Gefördert wird das internationle Projekt vom Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst (DAAD) für die nächsten 4 Jahre mit bis zu 1 Millionen Euro.

First successful meeting of the DAAD Thematic Network "Modern Geodetic Space Techniques for Global Change Monitoring" at University of Stuttgart.
On the 19th November 2015 the first Thematic Network Meeting with our partners from China, Luxembourg and Munich took place. The international project is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for the next 4 years with about 1 millionen Euro.
